I am using CS3 and had been processing my jpg's in Camera Raw as I like the results. This week I shot in RAW for the first time and was unable to process the files in my version of Camera Raw. When I looked at the Adobe site the Canon 550D was not on the list for my version, and it has only just been added to the CS4/5 version with the latest updates.
Is there a way round this other than to process the RAW files in the Canon DPP programme?

I really don't know for sure. Have you tried to update your ACR to the latest supported version in CS3? I haven't used CS3 for about a year, so I am not sure of the updated ACR will work with it or not.
I realize that this isn't an answer, but have you looked at Adobe Lightroom? You can get the current Beta and try it.

I just checked my work computer which has CS3 installed on it with all the current updates. It looks like ACR is 4.6 on it. Not sure which models it supports, but if yours is earlier than that, I would try updating it.

Thank you for checking Scott. 4.6 doesn't have 550D on it, only the newest version that is compatible with CS4/5 has the 550D.
I will look at Lightroom as an alternative.

Lightroom really isn't an alternative. IMHO, it is a must have for anyone that is even remotely interested in photography. It's developing engine is ACR, but it goes so far beyond ACR.
I can't live without it.

I'm downloading the trial version now, it is something I have been thinking about. Will let you know what I think.
Thank you.

I didn't embrace it the first time I used it. Part of that might have been that I was in the middle of things that were keeping me away from photography, my puppy had a broken leg right then, but once I sat down in front of it with an open mind, and was willing to re-look at my workflow, it was life changing from a photographic standpoint.
They have developed it to a point now where I do about 90% of all my post processing in Lightroom and only go into Photoshop for the very heavy lifting.

Lightroom=Love Bambers. It's going to end up becoming a regular part of your workflow, and you're not going to understand how you lived without it. I'm right behind Scott in saying it's probably one of the best things going in Photography for the digital era.

It took hours to download, but I have it now. Will try it today and see how it goes.
Does anybody know of a discount code to get a reduction on the cost?
