I am SO excited! My birthday isn't technically until tomorrow, but we had the family party with my aunts and uncles and grandmother tonight, so I already got my gifts. And my parents got me a 50mm prime Nikkor f/1.8 lens!!! IT'S MY FIRST PRIME FOR MY NIKON. Holy crap, I am so excited to have a super sharp, super fast lens. So my birthday is going to be spent playing! ;D I loved my primes for my Mamiya when I had it, so this is probably one of the coolest things ever right now.

That's really awesome! I want a 35mm 1.8 prime so bad! Can I ask why you want the 1.8 version of that lens? My understanding is that it is a DX version. I have the 35mm 2.0 which is a FX lens and is simply incredible for IQ. I think it is a little more expensive than the DX model, but if you ever plan on moving to full frame, have the 2.0 version makes a lot more sense than the 1.8.

I am a firm believer that the first lens after the kit lens should be the 50mm 1.8. It is very affordable for either Nikon or Canon.
It might be because I am a little older and remember when all SLRs came with a fast 50mm lens. :-)
