Nice. I have never used a D90, but I do have the 18-200 as my regular walk around lens. I think you will enjoy it.

Thanks, Scott! I'm so excited. It was a hard decision. My Minolta was very good to me, but I felt I needed to switch to a brand that had a more secure future than Sony. I know Sony is really trying to catch up, brand-wise, but they are really slow in getting out new lenses and gear.
So... I'm now part of the Nikon family.

I was a Pentax shooter in the film days. When I finally made the move to digital, I was in about the same place.
I knew more people who had Nikon gear that I could try out, and that moved me to the Nikon side of the world.
I have been shooting with a D200 for a long time now, and even though I really love it, I really would like to make the jump to the full frame and very high ISO of the D700.
I was ready last year and had the money set aside, but my puppy/dog broke her leg, it took all my camera savings to pay for the vet bills.

Congrats Marian! Welcome to the Nikon family! LOL I'm sure you'll create wonderful images with this camera as well. And Scott, I'm really sorry to hear about the puppy. I hope she's doing all right now.

I hope she's doing all right now. It was a year ago, she is find now. I am $4000 poorer, but she is fine. :-) If you go to my blog site, www.myblueheaven.com and click on the Ursa tags, you will get the whole story, including a really scary looking Xray.

I'll start by saying, this lens is heavy! It took a few minutes for me to get used to the additional weight in my hands. The placement of the shutter release is a bit more forward than my Minolta. The on/off switch is located just over the adjustment wheel and I accidentally turned off the camera when trying to adjust the aperture. The focusing is really quiet! Love it. The image/menu selection button is a bit too close to the digital display and when I went to page left, my finger kept hitting the edge of the display. When using Live View, it takes longer to find focus. The beep was annoying, so I turned that off. Aperture Test: Noise Test: (f/5.6, 200mm, ISO 1600 - straight out of camera) While some complain about the layout of the menus, I found them easy to navigate and understand. Vibration Reduction test: So... I'm off to play some more.

As I mentioned, the 18-200 is my staple walk around lens. I have others that I use for specific reasons, but normally the 18-200 is always mounted on my D200. The D90 looks like it has pretty impressing noise performance. That is the one thing I really want, ultra high ISO would fit right in with how and what I like to shoot. My next body will be full frame though.

Great news. It also looks like my choice of lens of the "Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS" to go with my Canon EOS 7D when I eventualy can afford to get it would be a wise one. I chose this for the different situations you might find yourself in when you do not have a budget to have several lenses for any given situation. I would also add to it the Canon Close-Up Lens that fastens to this lens (It is also suitable for Nikon camers) for those macro shots.
