I have played around with the macro conversion lens you are talking about. It is fun, and does work pretty well, but let me warn you up front, once you start playing with macro, you will want a good macro 1:1 lens. :-)

Great news. It also looks like my choice of lens of the "Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS" to go with my Canon EOS 7D when I eventualy can afford to get it would be a wise one. I chose this for the different situations you might find yourself in when you do not have a budget to have several lenses for any given situation. I would also add to it the Canon Close-Up Lens that fastens to this lens (It is also suitable for Nikon camers) for those macro shots. I was going to say "get your own thread" until I saw the very last sentence.

Lol @ marian . If and when my budget improves, I am sure I would go for the lenses that do a specific job etc. But it's great to know that people that have years of experience are going down or have been down the same road as myself equipment choice wise; this gives me comfort in my novice ability to understand what would be the best option for me to be able to achieve a cross section of senarios while keeping the budget for myself realisticly within reach and not just a dream that will never come true.
