You know, if the world was a perfect place, I could ride horses all day long and never get tired... as it is though, horse back riding is the one thing (and I mean that literally) that makes my back feel like someone broke me over their knee like a stick, then glued me back together again. Today I rode Vincent, a 16.2 hand A-circuit (highest level possible) thoroughbred gelding, and jumped about 2'3" which is considered beginner novice (pretty rare to get to that level after only 5 months of jumping). Then I rode Aspen, a 14 hand training level A-circuit quality hunter pony and jumped him 2'. Then I proceeded to ride Gummi Bear, a 12.2 hand shetland cross bareback... and am now about as stiff as a 90 year old woman who's been sitting in a wheel chair for 10 years.
Bad news is, I've promised to help set the course and ride more horses tomorrow to help prepare them for the hunter/jumper derby on Sunday... and that involves moving logs (and by logs I mean really huge logs) around and hauling standards and rails all the way across the field. So, by the time Sunday rolls around, I may be immobilized...
but being me, I promised the Long Gone Ranch folks pictures from the derby, meaning I will have to be there by 9:00, and it takes at least 45 minutes to get there, and with the sunday church traffic, I'll probably have to leave by 8:00, which means I'll have to get up by 6:45 to feed my horses, shower, and be totally ready to go.
I might not survive this weekend, but thankfully I managed to get out of babysitting two energizer-bunny-from-hell-children Saturday night.
That's the trouble with having an obsession with horses when you have lower lumbar scoliosis... but of course I can't give up riding. It'd take literally breaking my back and becoming paralyzed to force me to stop riding. Anywho... all that goes to say, here are some pictures of me and Vincent from last month that a friend of mine took for me (she has horrible timing, but whatever works, right?)
I do so love this horse. If he wasn't worth about a million dollars, I would buy him.
