If they haven't responded or looked at the thread it will show as new posts regardless. You are incorrect in your statement. It only shows as a new post if it has not been looked at - not if it has not been responded to. It is bad protocol on a forum to change the content of a post. You should only modify posts for spelling mistakes. Regardless, if they looked at a thread and didn't respond they probably aren't going to come back and respond later.

Maybe, Net... but some people like to think about their response first before they post. Plus... it would be nice to be welcomed by people instead of just being told rules.... that makes some folks uncomfortable as they see it as a negative response...so do not want to post after that.
I love photography and most all forms of art and have been teaching it for over 22 years... it is a wonderful way to communicate ideas, and record those ideas.... and I see many good threads here with useful information about a vast array of subjects. The site is also artistically laid out... and easily navigated. That brings many here for a while, but when you are not made to feel welcomed, most do not stay, and the site stays stagnant. I would hope that could change...I am just being honest. It should be fun too.
So far Saknika is the only welcome I have received... Oh... and I commend you, Saknika, on your covering supervisor well at work... that is a coup for you. Best wishes to you all.

Rust, I have found some people don't bother responding to you anyway even to say thank you or no thank you.

Thanks Rust and Bambers. It was a good way to start that day yesterday.
Today is a day off for me, and tonight I dance! Which is why I've been more of a lurker, and will be more of a lurker, these past 48 hours. Rehearsals, prepping, and the actual show are taking up a good chunk of time. But I'm so excited, and when the video is out I'll be sharing that too, since it's going to be recorded. C:
In regards to the welcoming, from what I've observed in the eight years I've been on forums, it's rare to find one with an active welcoming committee of sorts. There are the members who remember to go to the introductions board and say hi, and then there are the members who are too shy. Staff are still human beings, so it could be that they're a bit shy, they just missed it on accident, or something else.
When it comes to the rules, we will always try to politely remind you so that we make sure you're aware before we may have to take disciplinary action. Like I said though, I'm pretty lenient with the double posting rule, it's mostly a safety net for a way to get rid of problem members who only come to troll.
I am really glad to hear you love the forum though. It's taken about a year to get this far, and it's still only in its infancy. Right now my staff team and I are working on ideas to really vamp up the activity, and get even more people interested in the forum. That's why we recently did away with one of the rules that required you to leave comments to get comments in the critique section, and we're switching the way contests are judged. So if you ever have any ideas that might help us out, don't hesitate to head on over to the suggestions forum and let us know!

What kind of dance presentation are in involved in, Saknika? It sounds quite interesting...and would like to hear more about it.
I have been on , and am on several different forums. All allow double posting, and they all have had welcomes.... one group of us have been together now for 2.5 years, and some of us have become friends in real life also....if we are in the same general area. It has been fun. None are very interested in Photography, however, except for Bambers. We both share tips and program info....and help each other with photos. We are on opposite parts of the planet, but enjoy our common interests of garden and photo. Have a Great show filled with many memories.

Have a great time with the dance Saknika, it sounds very exciting. I'm looking forward to seeing your pics and video. I'm an administrator of a small Proboards forum, and couldn't find any way of stopping anybody from double posting within the Administration Area. Have you written special code for doing this, and has it been ok'd by Proboards? They get quite stuffy with you changing things without permission.

There is a special code that disables double posting already created, but I mostly just use the rule, and let me use an example to explain way. Trolls exist only to cause issues. So say you posted a photo, and this person comes in and is like "I don't like the exposure, fix it." and posts that. Then they make another post right after, "Oh, and your subject is really ugly." and then a new post after that "And by the way, centering stuff is lame." and they just go on and on. I, as an administrator, can then say "10% warning for being rude, 10% for each post you made of spam, ect.." and hopefully ban them faster with a legitimate rule break. This way if someone asks, it's not just "They were really rude", it's "They repeatedly broke the rules". So it's a safety net. Because no matter what, there's always someone out there who wants to make things hard for the rest of us. Dancing wise, I'm a belly dancer! Tonight was my first performance, and it went SO WELL. I had a ton of fun, managed to NOT freeze to death, took over 200 photos (though the light got poor fast so I don't have high hopes with the noise and such ), and had a lot of people come out to support myself and the troupe. I will be sure to post the videos of the dances I was in as soon as they're up.

I can't promise the photos anymore. Ugh, I haven't had a chance to send my camera in for the sensor issue, and it was in full force of being a jerk to me last night!!! So I'll save what I can, but I don't know how many that will be. They might just end up in snapshots, because I don't think most of the performance ones are going to be of good enough quality for anything else.
The video on the other hand, I'm waiting for the person who took the video to get it up. Shoooould be in the next couple days, I'd think. C:
