Contest 10: Worm’s Eye View [Discussion]

This contest is going to require extreme creativity, and clothing you really don’t care about. But hey, we’re all a little bit crazy for our art, right? I do apologize in advance to those of you who are a bit older, and who’s joints might not like this contest so much. But it’s just too fun not to host.

So for this contest, you’re going to get down on the ground! ;D I want to see a photo taken from the point of view of a worm—the ground! Look up, look straight ahead, look at some ants—I don’t care what it is so long as it’s from an extremely low angle. It could be cookie crumbs in your carpet, and it will still qualify. The only requirement of the photo is that you are down to earth, so to speak.

If you have any questions, or wish to discuss the entries, please feel free to post as much here!

Rules:
-The image must be created for this contest, and must be your own work.
-You may submit a single image only, no triptychs this time.
-Minor photomanipulation only. You may not destroy the integrity of the original photograph. Basically, if the person wasn’t actually standing there at the time of sunset, you may not photoshop them in.
-One entry per person.
-You must take the photo at ground level, or very close to.
-Once you’ve entered, you CANNOT edit your post for any reason! If you make a mistake, please PM an administrator to fix it for you. This way we can make sure no one cheats.

Deadline: April 30th 2010 at 11:59pm EST (that’s GMT -5. In California, or PST, it’d be 8:59pm, and in England it’d be 4:59am)

Actually, Esperanza's shot is a worm's eye view. The worm doesn't have to be looking upward, it can be looking straight ahead, as Esperanza's image shows.

Actually, Esperanza's shot is a worm's eye view. The worm doesn't have to be looking upward, it can be looking straight ahead, as Esperanza's image shows.

I know it's probably not the stereotypical worm's eye view (like my "Pig Pen" photo in the snapshots board) but I'm pretty sure a worm could see that too Plus, I don't know about you... but I've sure never seen a man that's taller than the Rocky Mountains like the one to the left side of the print appears and trust me, Sully's paws aren't that big in reality.

I'm sorry I snapped at you in the other thread Izuna. Monday was not a good day for me, and I made the mistake of allowing myself to take some of it out on you. It was not my intention, and looking back on it I do regret it. But sadly, like everyone else here, I'm only human and I do make mistakes. Live and learn, that's all I can do. I'll try not to let it happen again.

That said though, the only guideline to the level of the view is that it has to be from the ground. "Worm's Eye View" is merely an analogy of sorts, and a cooler name than "Ground Level Photography Contest". It doesn't matter what angle you go for. You can look up at a person and distort it with a wide-angle lens, or hell, take a macro shot of an ant hill swarming with the creatures. So long as you take it from the ground, it qualifies.

-Creative Choices 25pts
A very cute idea indeed to look at a paw print, and then have them lead the eye!

-Technical Skill 9pts
In this image, the exposure feels a bit off, and it could stand to be a bit brighter on the ground and perhaps with a bit more vibrancy to it.

-Composition 14pts
It's beautifully composed. The only thing that would have made it that much stronger is a vertical crop to aid the leading prints.

-Use of Color/B+W 24pts
It works great in color. As stated before though, they could stand to be more vibrant.

-Creative Choices 25pts
Almost didn't realize what this was! A very interesting choice to use a fan, considering it looks very much like a building if you don't look closely.

-Technical Skill 10pts
Technically, it's sound. The exposure is there, as is the focus and other such elements. Could do with more contrast though.

-Composition 13pts
It's a bit of a tight crop, so while the vertical crop helps add height to the fan, the tightness just takes away from it a bit.

-Use of Color/B+W 24pts
I'm pretty sure this is in black and white, but I can't be certain since that could be the color of the fan and the ceiling could be white. Either way though, it needs a bit more contrast as stated above, to really accentuate those lines; since they are the main element of the fan.

-Creative Choices 25pts
A flower may not be the most creative choice, but you definitely made it work because of color theory! The reddish color against the green is fantastic!

-Technical Skill 10pts
Beautiful. There's some grass that's not distracting out of focus in the foreground, the flower is in focus, and then the background falls out nicely. It's well lit, well exposed, and has wonderful vibrancy to it!

-Composition 15pts
This is one photo where the main object being centered doesn't bother me. It was a good photo to break the "rules" with.

-Use of Color/B+W 25pts
I don't think this could benefit from black and white at all. Fantastic!
