ok i just got Lightroom and i've never used it before. when i plug my camera in and go to import photos, it doesn't recognize any of them. i'm assuming this is because of the file format that the photos are in, so can someone possibly tell me how to fix that/what extension the file needs to have, also Photoshop won't import them either if it's in RAW format?? any ideas The beauty of Lightroom is that it can read all RAW formats. What version of LR are you using? And could you possibly show us a screenshot of the error you're seeing? It's hard to tell what might be going on without seeing it.

It might just be the Beta version then. I honestly have no idea, I've never seen such an issue before. But when I googled for your problem with the beta, there is a thread on the Adobe forums detailing other issues with importing. They however can see their images, they just can't get them to import.

Are you trying to import them, or just browse to the camera in the library module? If it is the latter, it won't work, you have to go through the import section. You can copy the images to your hard drive and import from disk, or you can attach the card and import from device.
I don't use the beta version, so I can't give specifics, and I don't know what camera you are using, but unless it is a VERY newly released model, LR shouldn't have any trouble with it.
As a side note, see a post I am going to do in the equipment section about memory cards and importing.

i just looked at the file again and it's a .ARW file so i think that could be the problem. Unfortunatly there's no way to fix that cause it's Sony's version of a RAW file. i wonder if that could be it

Check with Adobe and see if LR supports your camera. You should be able to google it pretty quickly. One thing to remember, even though all Sony models most likely use the ARW extension, not all ARW files will be the same, they will be based on the camera model, just like Canon and Nikon.
