What is your photography to you? Is it just a hobby, a career, or something else? Personally, while it started out simply as a hobby, I am working on making a career as a portrait artist. Right now I basically freelance my work, but someday I plan on having my own studio.

Right now mine is still a hobby. I'd love for my photos to be seen, maybe by stock companies, hell, even postcards. That'd be kind of neat. For now I'm not actively pursuing anything further than just a hobby, though in the future I very well may.

Mine too is just a hobby. I don't know if I could ever go anywhere with it. I know I might be okay at it, but there are people out there with a much stronger passion than mine for it. I think it might work with my graphic design career, it couldn't hurt it, so maybe when I do something else I can pair it with it.

Understanding photography will definitely help your graphic design career, since it would allow you to really get inside with magazine companies, or to be an art director if you so choose.

For now it is just a hobby. However I am thinking about being a journalist, computer engineer, chef or environmental scientist someday. Out of those careers, all except a computer engineer might require good photography skills.

Chefs cook food, they hire food photographers to photograph food. If you want to do both, more power to ya. Just remember, Laundry Detergent in Beer and oil over food - More bubbles/foam/froth and glaze respectfully.

Photography is definitely just a hobby right now and that's probably all its ever going to be. It'd be pretty awesome if I ever sell a picture, I'd be ecstatic, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Get your photos out there and getting some attention, even some samplers would do. You could do some private shoots, and if you're noticed you could end up getting some well-paid projects. You don't have to make a full-time job of it, but it's much easier to get your stuff noticed these days. :]

I went to school for photojournalism and I can't really see myself doing any other kind of photography. I'm thinking of doing a bit of documentary work, as well as trying to break into the magazine market, but I'm fine with shooting for newspapers. Once I get the proper gear in order, I'll probably contact a few editors at the local papers and try to do some freelance work.
