Her work is intense. I actually want to work with her and Tim, her brother, someday. I've never liked anyone's photos more than hers, no offense. I want to be as good as her someday. www.flickr.com/photos/21151157@N00/ That should be Maria McGinley.

I flipped through her profile. There were some good photos in there. Nothing that jumped way out to me though although I'm not really into portraiture as much as I am other forms of photography.

I guess the reason why I like her work is probably because she never ceases to amaze me, no matter what. If I wanted to get motivated I just check out her page, and try to figure out how she did this or that.

She's got some nice stuff, but it's a bit too static for my tastes. Needs to branch out with the poses a bit. But some of that lighting is very nicely done. A lot of darkroom manipulation though. Lots and lots.

Darkroom manipulation? Sorry, had to ask. She has some new photos up, too. I'm still impressed, lol!

It seems as if she takes photos mostly of family. While family members are great for practice, it by no means prepares you for taking photos of strangers. With strangers, you have to work to achieve the intimacy. You're also around family more, and have more opportunities for a shot, rather than having someone in your studio for 1-2 hours tops. Why don't you explain to us what it is you see in her photos that appeals to you so much. You've said that she never ceases to amaze you and that her photos are intense, but, to help your growth, why not try to tell us exactly why.

Hmm, because she seems to be able to pull off quite a few things. She's very creative. Everything seems to actually show the models' emotions and she does it beautifully. She also handles the eyes so well, which is one of the things I want to work on, taking photos of eyes. I don't really know how to describe what I like about her photos. I would like to work with her someday, but I'm in need of improvement.

One of the ways to improve is to take photos done by someone you obviously adore, and try to figure out HOW she accomplished it. Not by just saying she's creative, but get down to the nitty gritty of the technical aspects. How did she achieve that lighting? Why did she pose them that particular way?
