Congratulations first of all to all of our Weekly Theme winners! We didn’t see as many entries this past month as we did in August, but we had some amazing shots that I was very proud to feature in our Showcase. I’ve seen a lot of improvement from you guys through these, and I can’t wait to see more!
This month, for the Photo of the Month, a lot of deliberation went into it. But, because I felt it deserved the presence in the Showcase, I vetoed the group decision to give ComicIDIOT the spotlight for once. As a staff member, it’s much more difficult to get your photo featured as the POTM, because we as staff decide together what should be featured, and we don’t suggest our own images. We give you, the members, the first shot at this slot. However, I felt that his image showed a very creative idea to the capturing of a self portrait, and not only that it was pulled off very well. Self portraits are one of the most difficult things to photograph, especially when you lack help to get the focusing right, and cropping for that matter, so to see how well this was done deserves a big congratulations.
Our contest winner, by default, is Accebera with some fantastic wedding shots, portraying the story of a very memorable day. In four images she took us through the wedding day, sharing those little details and the most important moments. There’s something gentle, and very feminine, about these images that just make you want to look at them for a while. They speak so many words quietly, and they’re worth checking out for sure. A wonderful photo story Accebera, congratulations on it!
This month we worked on Colour Theory for our community practice, and I was sad to see so few entries, though very glad to see marked improvement in both of entrants’ work. It was close, but Enigmarose managed to come out on top by a margin. While both showed improvement, Enigmarose’s second submission showed a greater leap in skill than Lady Dragon’s. I would like to say congratulations to both though—Enigmarose for making it into the Showcase for showing so much improvement, and to Lady Dragon for trying again even though she had less than 24 hours to do so. That took a lot of love and dedication on her part, and she deserves a heart-felt pat on the back for it. So congratulations to both of you, I wish I could award you both with a spot in the Showcase, but I’m afraid it’s not possible.
So a big congratulations to all of you, and I can’t wait to see what you submit to October’s activities! Remember, anything you submit to Critique or the Digital Darkroom sections during the month of October will be considered for the Photo of the Month. So do your best and share! There are also a new Community Practice and Contest up, and a Weekly Theme that ends in just a couple of days.
Congratulations to September’s Showcase, and good luck to all in making it into October’s!
