New here, thought I'd say hi. I love photography but currently only have access to a somewhat poor camera. It's a great camera for general purposes but falls short on taking exquisite photos. I love it though! It's a Canon Elph I got 2 christmases ago nice to meet you guys

Hi Wynnyelle,
The Canon Elph is a very good compact digital and you can get some excellent pictures from it. Just make sure you have set the image quality to SuperFine for the best quality.
Not sure which model you have, but they normally have x times optical zoom and x times digital zoom. You are better turning off digital zoom in the menu as it does not give particularly good quality pictures.
Good luck with your pictures.

Yeah I have it on superfine always. I also have it on slightly less exposure since it seems to overexpose by default. What I also do is when I need a different exposure is point it to a place with more or less light, let it adjust then turn it back to the subject and take the picture. Yup--digital zoom is just no good Optical is good though. Only thing I wish I could do on it is set it to super long exposures but I don't think it's possible.

Hi! It'll be more of where I come to relax and show some of my photos. I'm just really lazy about uploading from my memory card to my computer to actually have them. I let like thousands of them pile up till it's full

These are some ways to use long exposure that you may want to try: -Ghosting: Ghosting is created by exposing through an object. To do this, start off with your subject clearly in the photo—usually a person. Set the exposure to at least 10 seconds or more, and at the 7 second point (you’ll have to count or use a stopwatch) have them run out of the photo, or move the object away. This movement has to be done relatively quickly! Then, the last three or so seconds will cause for what was behind them to start to be exposed through them. Voila! Instant ghost! -Light Trails: Light trails are usually done with the lights of moving cars at night. You set up on a street or sidewalk, and aim the camera at the middle point of the road to get a good focus. Then, set your shutter speed to 2.5 seconds or longer, and take photos of the moving vehicles. All you will see are trails of light. Make sure to play around to find the proper exposure for these. This is also a common technique for fireworks.
