We’re going to take a new swing with the community practice this time around! Why? Because Phototique is nearing its one year anniversary, and many of you have been with us for a few months. We’ve got people on many different skill levels, looking to do many different things. So, to get a better grasp on what direction some of our future practices should entail for our second year, we’re all going to perfect our craft!
What does this mean, I’m sure you’re wondering. A very good question, if I might say so!
For this community practice, there is no theme. You can take a photo of whatever you want. However! You have to set your own goal, and you have to tell us what it is!
So say, for example, you really love working with flowers. You have massive gardens at your house, and your dream is to live in a mud hut so you can cover it in plants. Naturally, you love taking photos of your plants. But you’re not sure how well you’re doing. For this practice, you’ll be able to do a photo of a plant then, share it with us, and tell us “I’m working on improving my skills taking photos of flowers.” That is now your theme for this month!
And while you’re working on your flowers, someone else might be playing with glassware. The possibilities are endless, and it all depends on what you, as a photographer, feel you need to work on most!
Because we’re giving this a twist however in theme, we’re giving it a twist in how the Showcase will be happening!
Every member of Phototique is going to be sending in a ballot stating who they feel worked the hardest to achieve their goal. And every member is going to be able to leave constructive comments in here, because what you’re working to improve may be someone else’s specialty. In the end, the Showcase winner is going to be selected by your peers here in the community, so work hard and show them all what you can do!
And of course, no one will be allowed to vote for themselves, so no worries on that part.
How this will Work:
1. Go take a photograph of something you want to work on.
2. Share that photograph and your goal with us.
3. Leave feedback on any photographs you feel you can help with.
4. Using the feedback you get, take a new photo and share it.
5. Rinse and repeat as often as necessary.
Remember! This is about improvement, so we’re hoping to see two photos or more in this thread from all participants!

We’re closing a bit early to allow for voting between the 26th and the 31st!
And now, to get us started, here is a photo I did with natural light:
Camera: NIKON D200
Shutter Speed: 1/50 second
Aperture: f/10.0
ISO Speed: 100
Time Taken: 1:22pm
Comments: My personal goal is to improve on my landscape photography. For this I tried to really bring out the colours, and use the contrast between blue sky and water to the yellow grasses and green threes to make it work. Had a polarizer filter to help.
Found this off the side of the road on my way home from work. Been scouting it for a while now, but I just had the chance to take the photo recently.
