We all know part of marketing (or at least those of us who've taken the classes or been in the business long enough) is done through connections. In fact, a big chunk of marketing is who you know, not what you know.
I was honestly surprised that when I started working for Bruegger's Bagles that my manager is a band promoter on the side. And turns out that most of the bands she promotes need photos, and they need promo packages.
Never in my life would I have guessed that by going to work for a chain bagel shop that I'd be making connections to photography gigs! Life really does shock me sometimes, so no matter what, look for those open windows folks!
And of course, I'm getting stuff through the bellydance too, which is great.
2010 is definitely my year to take off with marketing.
Anyone else come across strange connections in odd places before?

I recently had someone randomly find me online and book a senior portrait session. Through her, I took pictures of about 100 kids at their senior social as part of an event. And through that, I am offering cap and gown mini sessions that will be advertised to about 600 seniors at that school. It is incredible how it multiplies!!

Congrats Lauren! Word of mouth and direct exposure really does seem to be the best marketing you can get!
