I have a very small portrait photography business named Shinn Shots. (My last name is Shinn.) I've been toying with the idea of changing the name. What do you think of the name?

I don't like it, but only because it doesn't really roll off the tongue.

I'm not crazy about it, either. It sounds like a Roller Derby team name.
Shinntography? Hahahhaha... er, no. *falls over*

I can't say that I like it. Shinn Shots sounds kind of violent to me. I'd certainly change it. I don't know to what, but I would.

I agree you need something a little more flowy...I know that's not a word, but you know what I mean lol

I agree you need something a little more flowy...I know that's not a word, but you know what I mean lol www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=flowy ;D You have a last name that's also a body part (even though it has an extra 'n') so you will never be able to incorporate it pleasantly into a business name easily, unfortunately. The obvious choice is to use something that doesn't use your last name. Many photographers have had to go this route, so don't despair, you're not the only one. What kind of photography business are you doing?

Don't feel too bad though, I can't use my last name either because it's too close to Grenier Photography (my last name is Genier), imo, and I don't want to affect their image and vise versa. So maybe a DBA instead?

When I hear Shinn Shots all I can really think of is soccer and someone getting kicked in the shin... not a pleasant experience. I definitely have the name problem. I can't very well use Carlin in it, considering everyone who has ever heard Carlin instantly pipes up "George Carlin?" Far from... and I can't really use my first name, because honestly... one of my biggest pet peeves is someone making a pun out of my name, and they do it regularly. My dad is convinced I should call my photography "Hopeful Images." I keep telling him that I will never ever include Hope in any way that plays off my name because it has driven me up the wall for 20 years, and I would probably want to kill myself if I had to answer a phone every day and say "Hopeful Images, this is Hope how may I help you" and agonize in the responses people would give to that. It took me forever (and 20-30 friends giving suggestions and "voting" on which they liked best) to come up with something halfway decent.

So helpful. My family/friends all say that they love the name, but I knew it wasn't quite right. Glad to know I'm not crazy I've been thinking of names for about two months now. My business is a family portrait business - maternity, babies, kids, families. However, I don't want a name that locks me into that in case I ever decide to branch out. A lot of good names are already taken, so it's a real challenge to come up with options that are still available. Ok, I'm a little nervous about posting these up here because I don't want anyone to steal them, but I really need some impartial opinions, so here we go. Any thoughts on the following: Shinndig Studios (or Studio) Apple Town Photography Georiga Bee Photography United Heart Photography I have lots of other word options written down if none of those are good either, so feel free to reject them all. And I may take these names down in a few days just in case
