Getting started on any new forum is tough, and finding all the things you need to know can be even tougher. However, that is why this comprehensive guide exists for our forum so that hopefully you’re not left scratching your head and just leaving in confusion.
The first thing you’re going to want to do is customize your profile. This is the basis for everyone to know about you—as much or as little as you’d like to tell them.
To edit your profile, click on the “Profile” button in the top menu. It should be next to “Logout”. Then, click on “Modify Profile”.
Once your profile is all set up, it’s time to read our forum guidelines, so that everyone can play nice in the sandbox. These are just the general guidelines for around the forum, remember that each section in the Gallery has their own guidelines that need to be followed when posting imagery, so be sure to read those as well. None of them are that long, so it won’t take you more than fifteen minutes to read them all.
Now that you have the guidelines down, why not choose a photo specialty if you already have an idea of what you’re good at? You might also want to check out our listing of networking accounts like Flickr and Twitter, and also make some connections. All things exist to maximize your experience here, so please be sure to take advantage of them!
We’d also love to meet you, so stopping by the Introductions Board and letting us know a little about you and maybe a sample of your work or portfolio is highly recommended. We love meeting new members, and getting to know you is half that battle!
Once you’ve done that, it’s time to explore the other boards and see what we have to offer. Every month there is a contest and community practice, and we also select a Photo of the Month out of things posted in the Critique and Digital Darkroom boards. Each week is a new Weekly Theme for you to participate in as well. For more information on these, please see how the Showcase works.
And if you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to message a staff member! We’re always glad to help you out.
Happy shooting, and we all hope to see you around!
