Okay, first of all, these smilies are pretty amazing. I just had to say that. Hm, anyway. Yeah, hi there. I'm Savannah, and I'm on quite a few sites (DeviantART, Flickr, etc) as Savannahgrey. I'm a Junior in high school, and I live in the Sunshine state. I got into photography September of last year. I do mainly nature/macro photography, but I'm trying to broaden it out a little to see what I like best. I'm entirely self-taught (I don't like reading the books..I learn from doing. :] ), and I alternate between a Fujifilm S8100fd and a Canon Rebel XSi. I also own two manual cameras, a Pentax and a Minolta, but I need film and batteries before I can start to use them... I'm an amateur, and I end up disliking most of my photos after about a week. And I hate my photography style almost all the time, but ah well. I use VirtualStudio to edit the coloring in my photos at times and to add frames...I would use photoshop if I had it, but I don't, so... I want to go to a college that I can major in Photography, and a few have caught my eye. Hmmmm...I don't know what else to write, so hi!

Welcome Savannah! We're always happy to see new faces here! I agree that learning by experimenting is good, but something reading the books will show you how to get the effect you desire, so don't write them off completely. The emoticons are a set I picked up, so I can't take credit for them. But I thought they were pretty nifty too. ;D

Hi, Savannah! Nice to have you here. =] I like to learn by doing too, but books can give you a great start on trying something new. There are also a lot of photo magazines that provide good information. They're much easier to skim through than a whole book. ^.^
Welcome to the site!

Samantha - Thanks Haha, true true. I just find more things out than when I do reading the books...they bore me, and I find the thing I was looking how to do within five minutes, and it took me twenty minutes of searching through the book for it....if that makes sense at all, haha. Net - Awesomeness :] It's always nice to be in the same boat as someone else, heh. Accebera - I like looking through photo magazines. x] When I can find them, anyway...usually sports, tabloid, etc magazines cover them. D: And by the way, I would love to live in a place called Oshkosh....because the name is neat sounding, hahaha.

Okay. I've picked apart your post because I saw no better way to address all your points! Some of which aren't points I just wanted to add something Hm, anyway. Yeah, hi there. I'm Savannah, and I'm on quite a few sites (DeviantART, Flickr, etc) as Savannahgrey. I'm a Junior in high school, and I live in the Sunshine state. I still have to find you on deviantART. I have a Flickr but I don't use it as often as I should. I know of two sunshine states, Florida & California. I, myself, am from & live in California. I got into photography September of last year. I do mainly nature/macro photography, but I'm trying to broaden it out a little to see what I like best. I'm entirely self-taught (I don't like reading the books..I learn from doing. :] )[/quote] I myself and almost entirely self-taught. Shooting Nature & Landscapes with the occasional macro; I've also weakly invested into portraiture. I've taken classes but only for either easy credits or to get a hold of what I want to do with photography. Latter of which has been successful, I go into detail later on here. XSi is a good camera, not familiar with the Fujifilm there. 35mm cameras are all the same to me. The only differences are basically minute features. I've actually got some film I've intentionally let expire; almost past a year. I'm going to wait until 2011 to shoot all my rolls (about 32 rolls, B&W & Colour) because I hear expired film doesn't have much affect until after two years. I can guarantee we've all been there. I have, for sure. Mostly because I was changing styles in every photo. Some photos were wild life from afar while others were close and personal of my family pets. Even my portraits varied. After a while you'll recognize what you like most, for me it's shooting with my fisheye lens. I'm stuck with one specific millimetre and that alone has made for some unique photos! No wrong there I started in Google Picasa! I recommend a trip to Maine Media Workshops for at least a week over summer while you're under 18. I went this last summer, and I had almost no social fun. I was the youngest of my class - 19yo - the next oldest being six years older then I. But the Adult classes are more in-depth as I understand. I felt repressed from hanging out with my fellow teens; adults & teen students are basically segregated on campus, each have their own tent to eat under. The teens were in groups during lunch hanging out and playing around; unlike us "adults." If you'd like to see my portfolio from the school let me know and I'll direct you! Canon is a good sponsor of the school so you'll be able to rent out lenses and equipment for your camera! I tried out quite a few lenses that I'd never be able to afford. I was at the college/school/workshop for seven weeks and had more access to equipment (as I was also staff on top of a student) but the knowledge you walk away with, as well as a few images for a portfolio (I had to walk away with a full blown portfolio, professionally printed and everything, $.$) If you're interested in Photography and got parents supporting you they - and you - won't regret it in the long term. I haven't! Howdy there!

Hiiiiiiiiii!!! *waves* Have you tried Gimp? It's a free program (search google and you'll find it) and it has a lot of the features you would find in photoshop! I use it when I'm at work all the time.

Alex - Haha, well, I'm in Florida. I hate it. But I like the west coast of it, because I can see the sunsets on the beach. I'll definitely check out the workshop That sucks that you had nearly no social fun, being stuck with the adults. And I'd also like to see your portfolio from it too. :] Marian - Hiiii I downloaded it the other day, after I read this, haha. It's a little different from Photoshop, so I'm slowly figuring it out.
