Beta test Lightroom 3 until April 30th, 2010! I'm installing it as I post this! *has butterflies in his stomach* Edit: Some images, changes in green highlight: Vignettes as been separated into two categories. Lens corrections also holds "Chromatic Aberration" apposed to "Details" as in LR2. Effects contains post crop vignetting and the option to add a grain to your photo. Detailed images below: Not much has changed in the library. However you can know sync your catalog with Flickr, apperently - I should try that out! Finally start updating Flickr more often! - and you can turn on/off search filters more easily. Lastly, Import Dialogue has changed. For the better in my opinion. HDD's find colour when you mouse over. For those curious, I have the import settings to "Add" rather than copy or move because these files are already in my LR2 catalogue so I just desire to add these images to my LR3 catalogue without moving or copying. Save the space, yeah? This also makes it easier to organize the photos a way you want rather than LR's method. Expanded View Also, another edit, but worthy of downloading the beta is the new watermarking system. One can finally use an image instead of boring text!

Looks interesting. I might have to try it out, but considering it's in beta and has bugs, and I need it for work... I might not. I get really irritated if something is going wrong when I have a deadline.

You'll still have LR1/2 to use. I've encountered no bugs and wish I had photos to upload that have been editted. But all 70 of the photos I have edited, I haven't encountered any problems or bugs. The only *bug* I've come across is that you can't open post-LR3 catalogues so I'm not looking forward to loosing all my edits (stacks + VC's), ratings, colour labels and collections. Though at some point down the line of the Beta I want to copy my LR2 catalogue to LR3. Beta versions are still undergoing active development and that any changes (aesthetic, algorithms and/or process of import/export that can be refined, etc) are made before the final release. However, there are going to be bugs in any release. If you'd like to keep an eye on future bugs, check out the LR3 discussions. And data loss is exactly why I do weekly back-ups of my catalogue. Which, fortunately, I've never had to use a backup! I've read a couple bugs - LR3 crashing upon start up, importing five photos at a time - but not everyone has been getting those. I haven't crashed upon start up and easily imported 200+ photos at one time. We'll see on 11/14 how well LR3 handles a real, and large, import (not just a point-to, import). Also, while it's in beta is a good time to suggest features! Such as rotation of the heal/clone tool, which I have wanted for over a year now!

Was wondering if they had a Mac version, then I saw the screenshots. I'm definitely going to be giving this one a shot.

I've noticed one qualm already, the graphic watermarking can't be locked to a corner. It may look great on a landscape oriented photo but once it's cropped vertically the logo gains some space below.
Moved to fit wonderfully on a vertically oriented photo, it'll get just cropped on landscape orientation - at least my logo does. Can't wait until text options are enabled for graphics.

I just downloaded it and installed it. I'm impressed... 64bit version! The editing options are much better now than LR1. I remember I wasn't very impressed by LR1. Might just buy the released version when it comes out.

Might just buy the released version when it comes out. I came in at LR2 so I'd have no idea about LR1 to LR3. But I hear many people were happy about LR1 to LR2. Yeah, 64b = More stability on these 64b Operating systems like Snow Leopard and Seven. I can't recall if Vista was natively 64b~ I'm buying an upgrade JUST for the improved watermarking feature over LR2. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't upgrade. Maybe if they changed the Heal/Clone tool so it could rotate, maybe.

Vista has 64bit... I was running the 64bit version.
As for LR1... it was rather primitive as compared to Photoshop at that time. LR3 feels better, at least to me.

I sort of wish that I had the time to mess around with a beta, but I am already so far behind on editing and posting images, and visiting forums for that matter, that I just have to stick with my current 2.x version of LR. Does look interesting, and I suspect that I will upgrade when the release is made.

The only change I desire is for the export dialogue to get the same make-over as the import dialogue.
In other LR3 news that I've neglected to post is that the "Print" option now supports book exporting and video editing is apparently possible but I am unable to directly confirm this as my DSLR is not video compatible and I can't import videos recorded via web cam. So, I'll have to go out with my Point & Shoot one of these days or borrow some video shot on my friends new D300s (arrived in the mail yesterday!) and see if it works.
